THE ROAD TO WELLVILLE (1994)
Dark comedy melodrama period piece in which a sickly man (Matthew Broderick) and his wife (Bridget Fonda) attend the radical health resort of Kellogg (Anthony Hopkins). Though Kellogg is anti-sex, Wellville is all about repression and temptation. And the extremity of the circumstances there end up exposing a lot of dark secrets, for the main couple as well as for Kellogg himself.
This is an incredibly funny, brutal, and sexy movie with an astounding ensemble cast featuring Dana Carvey, John Cusack, Michael Lerner, and Lara Flynn Boyle (who plays an irresistably hot bedridden woman who is turning green from a sickness that is killing her! Dark hilarity!) This movie has a beautiful juxtaposition of elegance and bathroom humor, dark satire and moving melodrama, and it’s absurdly sexy.
