BABE: PIG IN THE CITY (1998)
Children’s horror noir melodrama about Babe the pig’s disastrous trip to the city. In the city, Babe finds misery and violence he’s never seen at the farm and resolves to help everyone. But even a gentle selfless soul like Babe can not save everyone in the dark, bleak city.
The Babe sequel has almost nothing to do with the merely pleasant original. This is a brutal and upsetting story often referred to as inappropriate for children. It’s chilling and sad and it reaches wonderful hope through darkness and cynicism. Most notable for the memorably tragic family of circus monkeys on a desperate quest for dignity in the cruel and humiliating human world. Heartbreaking.
