LOLITA (1962)
Comedy melodrama in which college professor Humbert Humbert (James Mason) becomes sexually obsessed with jailbait teen, Lolita (Sue Lyon), and marries her obnoxious mother (Shelley Winters) to get close to her. Unfortunately, Humbert finds competition for Lolita in a sinister lunatic playwright named Clare Quilty (Peter Sellers).
This movie is hip, hilarious, hot, and dark. The music is incredible. The cast is amazing, especially Shelley Winters playing Lolita’s obnoxious mother. And Kubrick’s use of improvisation from the actors strays a lot from the Nabokov book, but invests the movie with a great feeling of madness and chaos.
