THE LADY FROM SHANGHAI (1947)
Noir melodrama in which an Irishman (Orson Welles) falls for a rich lawyer’s wife (Rita Hayworth) and ends up involved in a complicated series of murders.
This movie’s plot has enough twists and turns to render it impossible to really follow, and yet it’s one of the most fun and sexy movies there is. The ensemble cast is unbeatable— everyone character is so memorable. And Rita Hayworth is definitely one of the better femme fatales. Orson Welles is wonderful, even with a ridiculous phony Irish accent. Everett Sloan is an incredible villain. And, though it’s old, this movie couldn’t feel more action-packed, thrilling, and modern.
